“How do I introduce my new partner to my children?”

If you’re the biological parent of a child, this is the tipsheet for you. It covers how to handle common situations and provides some parenting advice. Starting a new relationship can be exciting, but being in a stepfamily can test it. The bond between you and your partner will need to be strong and secure while negotiating how to be a stepfamily. Make sure to take some time for the two of you, and to keep communicating openly.

Try not to assume anything, be aware that you have separate loyalties to your children and new partner, and be open and honest when talking about these loyalties.
