Welcome to the Stepfamily Association of Victoria Inc (SAVI) Website. I am delighted that you have found us - a place to share ideas and the wisdom gained through all our experiences in stepfamilies.
We invite you to make full use of and enjoy our resources.
The Association has been in place for over 25 years, initiated by Margaret Howden and co-developed with Irene Gerrard who joined her shortly afterwards. I like to call them the "Elders of the Tribe", relating to their wealth of experience both personally and professionally - not their age!!!
Our Committee of Management is drawn from people who give their time and energy in furthering the cause of Stepfamilies and have experienced the joy and turmoil of re-partnering/step-parenting.
Our friendly staff (including many volunteers), led by Executive Officer Steve Martin are experienced and aware of the complexity of issues facing stepfamilies. Staff and the Committee of Management have implemented many initiatives to ensure the maintenance and growth of the Association. SAVI is based on the premise that all families can work well, given understanding and support when needed. We recognize that stepfamilies are unique and therefore try to provide the support systems which will optimize the benefits for all those re-inventing a family.
It is important that we are able to address issues which relate to you. We encourage and value your enquiries and contributions in whichever ways feel appropriate - Stepfamily Helpline, SAVI Online groups, email, newsletter and Committee of Management.
